Pioneer Woman Museum offers free lecture, admission Dec. 12

Ponca City Now - December 9, 2015 11:12 am

On Saturday, Dec. 12, the Pioneer Woman Statue and Museum will host its annual Holiday Happening Open House.

In its third year, the event has become an annual tradition.

“We are very excited to again offer a holiday event to our community where they are welcome to come and enjoy the exhibits, interact with our artists and sample a few treats from our gift shop,” said museum director Robbin Davis.

A free presentation by Dr. Sara J. Richter titled “Christmases on the Plains,” discussing the creative celebrations of 19th-century settlers on the Great Plains, will begin at 10 a.m. Seating will be limited, so early arrival is encouraged. Doors will open at 9:45 a.m. This will be the third presentation that Dr. Richter has made at the Pioneer Woman Museum this fall.

In addition to the free lecture, the museum will be open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. for a Holiday Open House, including shopping and holiday treats. Admission is free for the day.

“We want the community to come out and enjoy the day, get in the holiday spirit and support our local organizations and businesses,” Davis said.

Approximately 20 artists are part of the museum’s consignment artist program, which offers local, small-producing artists a venue for their work.

“The artists are all amazingly talented and we love having them as part of the offerings in our gift shop. They bring unique items that cannot be found anywhere else,” Davis said.

Events at the museum are in conjunction with the annual Ponca City Holiday Happening. Seven other organizations along with the Pioneer Woman Statue and Museum have come together to offer a weekend filled with holiday events, programs, treats and surprises.
