A 49-year-old Ponca City man was critically injured in an accident on U.S. Highway 177 at Oakland Avenue, 1.5 miles south of Ponca City, Wednesday afternoon.

The accident occurred shortly before 1 p.m.

Bruce Warrior was driving a 2006 Chevrolet Impala northbound on the highway when he rear-ended a 2014 Ford F550 driven by Lane Timothy Bart, 28, of Cleveland, Oklahoma.

Bart was carrying a hazardous material load and had come to a stop at the railroad tracks. Warrior failed to stop.

Warrior was transported by EagleMed to St. John’s Hospital in Tulsa in critical condition with head, arm, leg and trunk injuries, according to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol report.

Bart was not injured.

Warrior was pinned in his car for an hour and 38 minutes, the Patrol reported. He was freed by the Ponca City Fire Department, which used the jaws of life.

The Highway Patrol said the investigation into the accident is continuing.
