OKMULGEE, Okla. (AP) – The inauguration for the Muscogee (Creek) Nation’s new principal chief and other elected tribal officials has been scheduled for Jan. 2.

The tribe announced Thursday that the ceremony will be held in Okmulgee.

Principal Chief-elect James Floyd won the general election earlier this month by defeating George Tiger. Floyd is the former director of the Veterans Administration’s Jack C. Montgomery Medical Center and the Ernest Childers Clinic.

Louis Hicks was the incumbent for the Second Chief’s seat and won unopposed.

Three new representatives were also elected and two more re-elected to the tribe’s National Council.
