Po-Hi Band earns Superior rating

Ponca City Now - October 29, 2015 10:15 am

Po-Hi’s Big Blue Band traveled to Broken Arrow High School for the OSSAA Regional Marching Contest yesterday and came home with a Superior rating from the judges.

The students have been working hard since July for this day, and their hard work paid off, according to Andrew Orr, the assistant band director.

A Superior is the highest level achievable, and it puts Big Blue one step closer to earning the coveted Sweepstakes Award, which is equivalent to a State Championship in athletics. The band will compete for that later in April on the Concert Band side.

David Christy, Head Band Director, Orr, and Keith Crocker, Assistant Band Director, said students have adapted to some changes this year and the directors are very proud of them and their efforts. The last time the band earned this honor was 2011.
