Private prison to close

SAYRE, Okla. (AP) – The privately run North Fork Correctional Facility in Sayre is scheduled to be shut down in November.

Corrections Corporation of America spokesman Jonathan Burns told KECO that the last day of work at the prison is to be Nov. 14.

The private prison holds inmates from California. Budget concerns led the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation to decide several months ago to remove some of its inmates who are housed in other states.

The prison held 2,354 California inmates as of May 27, the last head count provided by Corrections Corporation of America.
