Two students were hit this morning in the crosswalk in front of West Middle School.

The crossing guard was in the crosswalk with his stop sign, and traffic in three lanes of traffic were stopped to allow the children to cross.

A driver going eastbound swerved into the southernmost lane and struck the children, according to Bret Smith, Director of Maintenance and Operations for Ponca City Public Schools.

Smith said both students were transported to Alliance Health Ponca City hospital with injuries that were not considered life threatening.

The Ponca City Police Department said the driver of the car had been arrested.

Information will be updated as it becomes available.
