Harmony House plans open house Saturday

Ponca City Now - August 24, 2015 8:41 am

The board of the Harmony House invite all Kay County residents to attend an open house from 2 to 5 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 29. This come-and-go event will feature a view of the updated facilities and an opportunity to visit with board members.

About 20 years ago, a group of Ponca City citizens became concerned about the lack of adequate meeting places for several 12 step self-help groups dealing with drug and alcohol addiction. The old Salvation Army building at 212 S. Third was purchased and renovated. Now there are eight 12-step groups using Harmony House with 24 individual group meetings each week.

All operating costs and capital improvements for Harmony House have been paid for by contributions and through the self-supporting efforts of the groups.

However, the endowed operating and capital funds are now at a critically low level. In conjunction with the open house, the directors has started a major fundraising campaign.

Contributions can be made to Harmony House, a 501(c)(3) at P.O. Box 424, Ponca City, OK 74602.

Donations will be matched up to $10,000 through a matching grant from the Renfro Family Foundation. Further matching funds are available through Phillips 66 and ConocoPhillips for employees and retirees.
