STILLWATER, Okla. (AP) – A pair of earthquakes has rattled parts of Oklahoma.

The U.S. Geological Survey says a 2.5 magnitude earthquake was recorded shortly after 2 p.m. Tuesday about 10 miles north-northeast of Stillwater in Payne County. The earthquake was reported at a depth of about two miles.

Earlier Tuesday, a 3.1 magnitude earthquake was reported about 14 miles east-northeast of Mooreland in Woodward County. The earthquake was recorded at about 11 a.m. at a depth of two miles.

Geologists say earthquakes of magnitude 2.5 to 3.0 are generally the smallest that are felt by humans and that damage is not likely from earthquakes below magnitude 4.0.

The Oklahoma Geological Survey has said it is likely that earthquakes are being triggered by the injection of wastewater from oil and natural gas drilling operations.
