Obituary for James Conover

James Finley Conover

April 19, 1966 – December 2, 2024

James Conover passed away, Monday December 2nd, at Integris Health Baptist Medical Center, with his beloved wife by his side. He was born on April 19th, 1966 in Blackwell, Oklahoma. James was the son of the late Robert Finley and Mabel Lola Conover. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his set of twin children and his brothers Robert Kenneth Conover and Michael “Mike” Conover.

If you asked James what he loved the most in life he would have told you his family. James was the baby of his family with four older siblings. James cherished his father, whom he lost when he was only nine years old. When James was only 15 his mother adopted his little sister, Tisha when she was six months old. James helped raise her and was like a father to her up until the day he died. In December of 1986 James and Jodi first met. It took James until February of 1987 before he got the nerve to call Jodi. They have been together ever since and enjoyed 38 years of marriage. James was an avid fisherman, loved shooting his guns, collecting guns, working on vehicles (he owned several throughout the years) and collecting trains. James’ goal was to eventually build a railroad in his home for his model trains.

Another love of James was sports. Throughout his school years he played baseball and football. James loved sports and shared this love with his family. While the boys grew up James was involved as far as attending all of their games and even coached their teams. James was a t-ball coach and little league football coach for years. James never missed a game the boys played in Middle School and High School. When Landon decided to join the band instead of playing high school sports, James attended trips he would go on. Sports are still a big part of his family’s lives, even if he was the only Detroit Lions fan.

James was known for collecting things but he was mainly known for his oversized heart. James loved his family and helping others. His love for his grandchildren was unmeasurable. He was everyone’s biggest supporter. This world will never be the same again. Jodi will forever miss the love of her life and the glue that kept their family together.

James is survived by his three sons; Robert “Bobby” (Sarah) of Oklahoma City, Landon (Aerika) of Coweta, and Craig (Taylor) of Glenpool. Honorary children include Chance Castonguay of Chickasha and James (Becky) Booth of Kingfisher. James was blessed with five grandchildren whom he loved immensely; Kambrie (11), Alice (10), Jackson (8), Tatum (3) and Cooper (1). His siblings include David Conover of Oologah, Robert “Robbie” Conover of Dallas, Tammy Conover of Oklahoma City, and Latisha (Loch) White of Oklahoma City.

The family has decided to have a graveside service at Blackwell Cemetery. James will be buried next to his father, as he always wished. The service will be Monday, December 9th, at 1pm. In lieu of flowers please send any house plants or make donations to the American Stroke Association in memory of James.
