Epic Charter Schools Announces Salary Adjustments and Layoffs Amid Financial Challenges

OKLAHOMA CITY (KOKH) — Epic Charter Schools (ECS) is going through a school-wide reorganization which includes layoffs, base pay and salary adjustments.
In an email sent to staff Friday morning, Epic Charter Schools said it’s experiencing financial challenges due to declining student enrollment numbers.
ECS reported its enrollment number was at 30,042 as of Monday morning.
The email sent on Friday said the HR team would contact employees included in position adjustments to help explain the off-boarding process and answer questions.
“We are committed to continuous improvement of our processes and hope to continue the success and momentum we have experienced in the past year,” Epic Charter Schools said in the email.
Another email was sent to teachers Monday morning delving into the schools’ operational cost.
The email states, “Beginning Nov. 1, 2024, the minimum salary for teachers will be adjusted to $50,000 annually, which is a change from $60,000.”
According to the email, the change only affects teachers who have weighted rosters under 28 students.
According to ECS, an amended contract will be sent to teachers impacted by the change.
In the email, ECS said it teachers would not be able to continue employment unless the amended contract is accepted.
