Union Pacific ‘Big Boy’ in Oklahoma This Sunday and Monday

Big Boy Train

Union Pacific’s Big Boy 4014, the largest and most powerful steam locomotive in the world, will be passing through Oklahoma this Sunday and Monday, October 13th and 14th!This refurbished train from the 1940’s is on an eight-week ‘Heartland of America Tour’ through 10 states. Oklahoma is lucky enough to have three stops on this tour!

We’ll highlight the stops below, but you can track 4014’s location on Union Pacific’s site HERE.

Be aware that while you can see the train in motion and at the stops, you cannot view the train at the nightly stops.

Big Boy is currently in Texas now and will be for a few days.

At 8:00 AM Sunday, October 13th, the train will leave Fort Worth, TX on its way to Oklahoma.

The first Oklahoma stop will be in Durant from about 1:15 to 1:45 PM at the Louisiana Street Crossing. During this stop, you’ll be able to take pictures and videos of the train. At 1:45 PM, the train will depart and head to McAlester where it will be closed off to the public.

Big Boy will leave McAlester at 9:00 AM on Monday, October 14th on its way to Muskogee.

The train will pull into Muskogee around 11:00 AM Monday and will stop for 30 minutes at the Okmulgee Street Crossing. This will be the first of two stops during the day.

At 11:30 AM, the train will depart Muskogee and will arrive in Claremore at 1:15 PM. Big Boy will be stopped in Claremore at the Florence Avenue Crossing for 30 minutes. At 1:45 PM, the train will continue on to the overnight stop in Coffeyville, KS.

Once in Kansas, the train will head to Kansas City, MO, then make its way back west through Kansas, Colorado, and return to its homebase in Cheyenne, WY.

Union Pacific urges people to be careful around railroad tracks and to be aware of their surroundings around the train.
