Clement (Sam) Joseph Lessert (Poppy) peacefully passed away on August 17, 2024, surrounded by family. He was 95 years young. A celebration of life will be held at Saturday, August 24, 2024, at 2:00pm at Trout Funeral Home Chapel in Ponca City with Deacon Bill Horinek officiating and Joe Lessert, soloist. Sam will be laid to rest at Washunga Cemetery in Newkirk following the service. Arrangements are under the direction of Trout Funeral Home and Crematory, 505 W. Grand Ave, Ponca City, OK 74601.

Born on December 12, 1928 in Ponca City, Oklahoma, he is the son of Clement S. Lessert and Kathryn (Kat) Lessert. He was the oldest of six children. An only child for 12 years and then the rest of the kids came in a flurry. He was a man of few words, yet kind, loyal and always there to help. He would do anything for anyone in need (or if my mother thought was in need), by being sent to the rescue.

Sam was an all-around athlete. He went to school at St. Mary’s High School, where he was one of the stars on St. Mary’s basketball team, working together with his best buddy Bud Hess and taking the team to State. He played baseball with the Osagers , where he pitched the team to victory during their last season, as many were drafted into Army for the Korean War. His greatest accomplishment, was self-taught golf, winning many local tournaments in and around Ponca City.

Sam enlisted in the Army in 1950 and was Honorably Discharged in 1952. He married the love of his life, Rogena C. Adair on February 25, 1952 in Colorado Springs, Colorado. and was married for 63 years.

Sam was reunited in Heaven with his wife, Rogena Adair Lessert; father Clement Lessert; mother, Kathryn (Kat) Lessert; sister Mary Kathryn (Sissy) Lessert; nephew Derrick (Dirk) Lessert; Sister in Law, Debbie Lessert and brothers Jim Lessert and Michael Lessert.

Sam is survived by his daughters, Debra (Debbie) Lessert; Leslie Lessert Hitt and her husband Lynn; brothers Pat & Ruth Lessert; Frank & Linda Lessert; sister in laws, Dottie Lessert and Donna Lessert; granddaughters Whitney Furnace and her husband Jon; Madeline Hitt; Courtney Whitlow; great-grandchildren Beau Henry; Baylor Clement and Eleanore Blake and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and neighbors. He will be missed dearly.

Casket bearers include Chad Lessert, Jarrett Lessert, Wade Lessert, Jaime Lessert, Clayton Lessert, and Braydon Lessert.
