Ponca City Schools releases statement about Bibles in classroom

Team Radio - July 25, 2024 4:03 pm

The Ponca City Public Schools released the following statement in regards to Ryan Walters demand that a bible be placed in every classroom in Oklahoma.

At this time, we believe this boils down to a local control issue. While PCPS is required to teach to Oklahoma’s academic standards, state law is clear that the selection of the curriculum and materials used to teach in the classroom is a local Board of Education decision.

With our previously approved BOE policy (4.9 Interrelationship Between Curriculum and Religion), our Board of Education has clearly defined the role of religion in our buildings and classrooms. At this time, Ponca City Public Schools has no intention to make recommendations for changes to policy, nor do we feel compelled to expend funds for additional curriculum materials at this time.
