Father Arrested for Racking up $60,000 in Debt Under Son’s Name

OKLAHOMA CITY (KOKH) — A father was arrested after being accused of racking up more than $60,000 in debt under his son’s name.

The son filed a report against his father, Kevin Morris, on July 19 after discovering six credit cards were taken out in his name.

Around $60,515 in debt had been accrued between cards from American Express, Citi cards, Discover, JP Morgan Chase, and two under Capital One.

After looking into the charges, he found an email and P.O. Box linked to his father that were associated with the accounts.

His father admitted that he used his son’s identity to create the credit cards, but claimed it was to build up his future credit.

The son reported the debt as fraud and asked for a refund, but his father asked him to revoke the fraud report, saying he would take care of it.

According to the affidavit, the son said he wanted to press charges.

Police followed up with the father at his home in Edmond.

He admitted to police he’d taken out the credit cards in his son’s name, but that he never missed a payment.

He estimated he’d taken out $10,000 worth of debt, then another $45,000 for his company.

The affidavit states he even planned on moving to Georgia at the end of July.

He was booked into the Oklahoma County Detention Center for identity theft.
