Sam Noble Museum's Flight Lines wins best exhibit award in Oklahoma(Sam Noble Museum)

The Sam Noble Museum announced that the 2023 exhibit “Flight Lines” has received a state-wide best exhibit award from the Oklahoma Museums Association.

The “Flight Lines” exhibit came together through Sam Noble and the OU School of Visual Arts. It shows the world of birds and flight through scientific illustration.

“This award celebrates the powerful and effective translation of scientific knowledge that can result when visual artists engage deeply with collections, like the naturalistic art collection in the museum’s ethnology department,” said Claire Nicholas, Ph.D, Flight Lines co-curator. “Studying and sketching across the work of expert illustrators, ornithology specimens and students’ own research opened windows for our visitors onto the habitats, life cycles, elegance and character of birds.”

While “Flight Lines” is not currently on display, another exhibit with the OU School of Visual Arts called “Prehistoric Visions” is on display and shows a reimagined view of ancient life with fossil specimens.

“We are grateful for the recognition and immensely proud of the achievement,” said Janet Braun, director of the Sam Noble Museum. “The collaboration between students, faculty and renowned artists exemplifies the museum’s dedication to fostering creativity, curiosity and appreciation for the natural world.”
