FEMA Urges Storm Victims to Apply for Assistance as Oklahoma Deadlines Near

KTUL - July 22, 2024 6:24 am

Deadlines are approaching for FEMA’s disaster assistance and those affected by the storms that tore through parts of Oklahoma are urged to apply.

The assistance FEMA offers doesn’t only apply to homeowners: renters, students, and any others affected by the storms.

Emma Bolin, a victim of the Claremore tornado, is still dealing with the repercussions as she navigates to find new housing.

“Everything was everywhere and there wasn’t much to salvage,” said Bolin.

Now, Bolin and her partner are working through the financial strain that the storm has cost them.

“Financially it was a huge strain just because nobody prepares for a tornado. All of our furniture, all of our belongings are pretty much toasted, like we don’t have much,” said Bolin.

Many are challenged with rebuilding their lives and FEMA wants to remind the public of the assistance available to them.

“There are a lot of different programs that are available to disaster survivors and the one in particular that we just put out is in reference to rental assistance that survivors may be eligible for if their home is uninhabitable,” said Mike Wade, a FEMA Spokesperson.

FEMA rental assistance covers temporary housing, rent, security deposits, and other related costs. Those interested can apply online or at a FEMA Disaster Recovery Center.

If you were affected by the May or June storms, the application deadline is July 31st.
