Guthrie Councilman Resigns After Controversial Comment on Trump Assassination Attempt

KOKH - July 19, 2024 7:52 am

A Guthrie city leader resigned after comments he made online following the assassination attempt of former President Donald Trump.

There’s been a lot of pushback from what some have publicly posted after the assassination attempt.

First a Tulsa Police Lieutenant, then an Ardmore teacher, and now a Guthrie councilman.

In a letter to the Mayor of Guthrie, former Councilman Jim Case said, “I recently made a comment on social media that I now realize was inappropriate in nature. I never intended for the comment to be meant in the manner it was but I recognize now that I should not have said it at all. I sincerely apologize.”

In reporting from Guthrie News Page, case commented, “P*$& poor shooting!” on a post about the Trump rally when a shooter killed a man and injured others.

FOX25 called Case and went to his business to find out what exactly he meant, but he didn’t answer and was not there.

The Guthrie City Manager didn’t agree to go on camera, but instead sent a statement including, “The City of Guthrie would like to thank Councilman Case for his time dedicated to the city over the last seven years.”

There is now a vacant seat on Guthrie’s City Council.

If you want to apply, you must be a citizen of the U.S. and Oklahoma, 21-years-or-older, a registered voter, a resident of Guthrie for two years immediately preceding the date of the last general election and a resident of the Ward I.
