NOC Enid Offers Planetarium Show June 6

Ponca City Now - June 5, 2024 6:38 am

The June planetarium show at the NOC Enid Mackie Planetarium will be offered on Thursday, June 6, at 7 p.m.

Planetarium Director Fritz Osell will show the night sky over Enid during summer and point out where constellations, planets and other interesting objects may be found in the evening sky. Also featured is the northern sky in early evening.

He will also present a trip to Saturn and one of its moons Enceladus.   Enceladus is known to have an ocean beneath a crust of ice.  Geyser-like jets spew water vapor and ice particles from an underground ocean beneath the icy crust.  In Greek mythology, Enceladus was one of the Giants, the offspring of Gaia (Earth) and Uranus (Sky). The show will also visit Saturn’s largest moon Titan.

“We will show visitors our night sky from Enid and point out stars having known planetary systems,” Osell said.  “You will be quite surprised at how many stars have planets.  We will also demonstrate to visitors how to gain access to remotely operated telescopes in the Canary Islands and in Chile.”

Public shows are held on the first Thursday of the month.

There is no charge for the show but donations of non-perishable food items for Our Daily Bread are welcome.
