On December 21st, 2023, Bill D. Wilson of Blackwell Oklahoma, one of the greatest men who ever lived, took his last breath in this world, and his first breath in heaven. What a wonderful homecoming he had on that peaceful December afternoon.

Bill was the best family man ever. He was a beacon of light and taught his family through his examples ensuring he put God first always, family second, career third.

Bill had an infectious smile and never met a stranger. He was kind, steadfast, and strong all the way through the end, a true gentleman.

Bill married Dorothy Jean Myers on June 5th, 1955, and began their married life in Hawaii where he was stationed and proudly served in the Army for this great nation. While stationed in Hawaii, Bill and Dot welcomed their first children. The twins, Terri Jean and Sherri Jean were born on February 19th 1956.

After being honorably discharged from the Army, Bill and Dot chose Blackwell, Oklahoma as their initial hometown where he started his career with Blackwell Automotive, Green Light, and Parts Plus. It is here where they introduced three additional daughters, Patricia Kay (1957) Lea Ann (1959) and Connie Raye (1961). After spending a short stent in Pawhuska, Oklahoma, Bill and Dot returned to Blackwell in 1970 where he lived for his remaining years.

Bill was a true family man, he always made taking his family on vacations a priority often finding themselves camping at one of their many favorite lakes. Canton, Spavinaw, Fort Gibson, Grand Lake to name a few. One of his and Dot’s favorite places to visit was Colorado with several ventures to Yellowstone, Montana, and all states in between. Bill and Dot loved traveling this beautiful country and spent many days soaking up the time, never forgetting to make memories along the way.

As years went by and his girls began to marry, Bill and Dot finally were able to add boys to the family dynamics. Terri married her high school sweetheart Chuck Tiemann on June 5th, 1975. Terri and Chuck had 3 beautiful children, Kendall Tiemann, Kristin Andrews, and Kim Andrews, all residing in Ardmore Al. Sherri married Richard Eakins on November 15th, 1975. Sherri and Richard of Nardin, OK, had two beautiful children, Ryan Eakins of Rubottom, OK and Tera Sneath of Ponca City, Ok. Kay and Greg Cartwright of Lake Ozark of Missouri married on May 29th, 1976, and had 2 amazing boys; Todd Cartwright of Dearborn, Mo and Robert Cartwright of Richmond, KY. LeaAnn and Randy Cooper of Enid, OK married on August 20th ,1977 and had three beautiful children, Chad Cooper of Kingfisher Oklahoma, Randa Real of Enid, Oklahoma and Eric Cooper of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma. Connie and Jeff Ewy of Louisburg, Kansas married on January 3rd, 1981, and were blessed with 3 amazing boys: Bradey Ewy of Louisburg, Kansas, Billy Ewy of Lees Summit and Tyler Ewy of Fair Grove, Missouri.

Bill was born in Sweetwater, Oklahoma and eventually settled on their family farm located near Follet, Texas. Bill, along with his siblings, Freda Lambert, Jay Wilson, Una Babitzke, Darrell Wilson, and Trudy Gillispie were raised by Art and Ruby Wilson where many of his family values were taught and fostered.

Bill had many hobbies including hunting, fishing but his love of farming and raising cattle were where he found his greatest joy in his retirement years. Bill loved spending time on the tractor and was very grateful of Richard’s and Sherri’s acceptance of his help (and a lot of patience) during many harvests through the years.

Bill also enjoyed spending time with his Peckham Eagles family – a local country school where his wife of 51-years taught kindergarten and 1st grade for many years. Recently during a retirement ceremony for his daughter, Sherri Eakins, Bill was able to receive an honorary plaque featuring her amazing artwork of an Eagle that is displayed to this day both in the halls of the school and mascot located in the center of the gym floor.

Bill left behind a wonderful legacy of 13 grandchildren. Ryan Eakins, Tera Sneath, Todd and Robert Cartwright, Kendall Tiemann, Kristin Andrews, Kim Andrews, Chad Cooper, Randa Real, Eric Cooper, Bradey, Billy and Tyler Ewy. He was also blessed with 30 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild, born one day after he entered heaven.

Bill was a member of the First Baptist Church and served as a deacon for many years. Serving his church allowed Bill to share with others the importance of having a personal relationship with God, to always keep your faith and to take care of your family and would want everyone to know, LIFE IS GOOD TODAY and in his final breath he had the privilege of telling his daughters, he would see us on the other side.

A memorial service is scheduled for 2:00 p.m., Thursday, June 6th in the Follett Community Center in Follett, Texas, with Rev. Ryan Eakins officiating. Burial will follow in the Fairmont Cemetery in Follett.

A memorial has been established in his honor with the Wounded Warrior Project.
