PCPD Arrest Suspects, Release Statement After Homicide in Ponca City on Saturday, Victim Identified

Officers with the Ponca City Police Department responded to the 300 block of North Pine on Saturday evening, shortly before 10:00 pm.  When they arrived, they located an adult male suffering from a gunshot wound.  The subject was transported by PCFD medical personnel to Integris Ponca City where he was pronounced deceased from his injuries.  The victim has been identified as 36 year old Deron Deangelo Maxey.

After taking statements from multiple witnesses, Law Enforcement believes this initially began as a robbery, and at some point, the victim was shot.

On Sunday, March 31^st, officers with the Ponca City Police Department, the Kay County Sheriff’s Office, the Oklahoma Highway Patrol and the Bureau of Indian Affairs, began contacting multiple individuals, at multiple locations in Ponca City and Kay County, to attempt to locate two suspects.

Shortly before 4:00 pm on Sunday, Law Enforcement officers from those agencies took two individuals into custody at an address outside of the city limits in Kay County.

18 year old Mitchell Reed Deroin and a 16 year old juvenile male have both been arrested and charged with Felony Murder.  Deroin is currently being held at the Ponca City Police Department and the Office of Juvenile Affairs has taken custody of the juvenile suspect.
