On Tuesday, February 13, 2024, just before 8 PM. Ponca City Police responded to Meadowbrook Village at 2900 N. Union Street in reference to a male yelling outside his residence and threatening to kill a passerby. The male subject made threats to kill police officers as they arrived at the location, then fled into the residence. During the exchange between the responding officers and the subject, a green laser was pointed in the officer’s direction. Officers called additional units, and set a perimeter around the residence. The male emerged from the residence several times in the nude, challenging officers to fight him without their guns and badges. Officers contacted the subject on the phone and convinced him to come outside peacefully. The male subject was taken into custody and evaluated by Grand Mental Health. He met the standard for emergency detention and was released into their custody. Ponca City Police obtained a search warrant and searched the residence, where they found methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia. No firearms were located inside the residence. Interim Chief of Police, Richard Evans stated “The incident involved a complex interaction with a male subject who exhibited threatening behavior towards both civilians and law enforcement officers. Despite the challenges presented by the subject's actions and statements, the situation was successfully de-escalated through effective communication and tactical response by the responding officers. The subject was safely apprehended, and appropriate measures were taken to address his mental health needs and the discovery of illegal substances on the premises.” Lt.
