Tulsa company to outline plans for state Capitol

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) – Officials from a Tulsa-based construction company plan to outline their strategy for repairing Oklahoma’s nearly 100-year-old state Capitol to members of a legislative oversight committee.

Administrators from Manhattan Construction Co. will appear before the State Capitol Repair Expenditure Oversight Committee on Thursday. Afterward, committee members will discuss their options for phasing in repairs to the interior of the Capitol.

Officials say repairs to the building’s interior should begin next year and will be limited at $91 million. Renovations to the building’s exterior are expected to begin this spring. That contract was awarded to JE Dunn Construction and capped at $25 million.

The Legislature last year approved a $120 million bond issue to repair and restore the building, which has a crumbling exterior and outdated plumbing, electrical and security systems.
