Tulsa voters approve school bond issues

TULSA, Okla. (AP) – Voters have overwhelmingly approved a $415 million school bond package for Tulsa Public Schools to fund the construction of new school buildings, libraries and other needs.

The four measures in the package each passed with more than 80 percent of the vote Tuesday.

The approved funds will go toward transportation needs, textbooks, technology and other classroom materials. About $72 million in the proposal was budgeted for school additions that would double as storm shelters.

School officials also want to use the bonds to establish a science, technology, engineering and mathematics center; build new libraries at three schools; and construct several new multi-purpose field houses and football stadiums.

The district’s superintendent says he’s pleased voters passed the bond package and that it will benefit students.
