NEWKIRK — Authorities are in the midst of a preliminary investigation into the death of a Newkirk man.

A white man was found deceased in his residence on Seventh Street in Newkirk on Tuesday.

Kay County Undersheriff Steve Kelley said the sheriff’s office, the Newkirk Police Department and the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation are working together on the investigation.

Kelley said the OSBI will seek a search warrant and will perform the crime scene investigation and collect evidence. He said the other agencies are canvassing the area and talking with neighbors to gather information.

He said the state Medical Examiner had been called to determine the cause of death. The man’s name has not been released.
