On Friday, a woman was hit and killed by the wing of a small plane while on a lawnmower at the Broken Bow Airport.

According to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, the incident did not happen until moments after the pilot of the 1972 Bonanza A36 landed on the runway. Officials said when the pilot, 70-year-old James Baxter, touched down, he saw a person on a lawn mower, so he attempted to pull up to get the wing over the person but was unsuccessful in doing so.

Samantha Hayes, 27, was pronounced dead on the scene due to a head injury.

Baxter did not sustain any injuries.

This tragic incident is under investigation.
