Secret Service Confirms Substance Found in West Wing is Cocaine

WASHINGTON (TND) — The Secret Service confirmed Wednesday that the powdery substance found in the West Wing Sunday evening is cocaine. The question remains: who brought the illicit drug to the White House?

The Secret Service are investigating what happened over the weekend and we have confidence they will get to the bottom of this,” said White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre on Wednesday.

A Secret Service official told the New York Times it was found in a “work area of the West Wing.”

“A plastic baggie isn’t going to be picked up by any security screening at any time of day,” said Steven Groves, a former West Wing staffer and current Margaret Thatcher fellow at The Heritage Foundation. “Unless someone left a clear fingerprint on this baggie, they will probably never find out who may have dropped it there.”

The president was at Camp David when the cocaine was found.

Critics wasted no time pointing out that the president’s son Hunter Biden was at the White House the Friday before the bag was found. The younger Biden has been very open about his addiction struggles with crack cocaine.

“There is a lot of scrutiny being placed on his access to this White House and how this is going a little further than what you would expect when you have someone with so much scandal and controversy around him,” said Jason Rantz, host of The Jason Rantz Show.

Despite his recent controversial plea deal cut with the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Delaware regarding tax and gun charges, Hunter Biden remains very much publicly connected to his dad. He celebrated the Fourth of July at the White House, attended the recent state dinner for the Indian Prime Minister and accompanied the president on Marine One for back-to-back weekends at Camp David.

House Republicans still want to question U.S. Attorney David Weiss, who agreed to give Hunter Biden the plea deal allowing him to avoid jail time. They want answers on the nature of the investigation to ensure the president’s son didn’t receive special treatment.
