KOKH - July 5, 2023 6:50 am

An 8-year-old boy was accidentally shot in the chest by his 14-year-old brother in a Walmart parking lot on Tuesday.

The incident happened at the Walmart near NE 23rd and Henney.

Both are children of an off-duty Oklahoma City police officer, according to law enforcement.

The gun used in the shooting belonged to the off-duty officer but the officer was not present when the shooting occurred.

Police said the shooting happened inside a car after a relative the children were with had gone inside the store to grab something.

The injured child was brought to an area hospital by ambulance because the a helicopter was too far away, police say. The boy was taken into surgery but there aren’t any updates on his condition.
