Students and staff at Rose State College in Midwest City on Monday were faced with a terrifying situation of a possible active shooter on campus.

The suspect has been identified as Brandon R. Morrissette. He is being held at the Midwest City jail for first-degree murder and possession of a firearm on school property.

According to police, the victim was walking out of the building with the suspect’s wife. Morrissette believed his wife was having an affair, but his wife told police that wasn’t true.

Midwest City police received the shooting call around 12 p.m. and officers arrived on scene only moments after the call.

Officers encountered Morrissette, armed, in front of the Humanities building, ordered the suspect to drop the weapon and took him into custody. Officers found one deceased male victim.

The building was quickly placed on lockdown.

News 9 spoke to a couple waiting in their truck for their daughter who was sheltered in the building.

“I’m glad everybody is ok and I’m sorry for the person that did get shot, I mean it hurts,” said Norman Hayes, parent. “There’s just been too much of this going on school public areas and everting it just needs to be taken care of and luckily they got out here quick enough to get it taken care of.”

According to police, both the victim and the suspect’s wife were students at Rose State.
