OKLAHOMA CITY –This week House Minority Leader Cyndi Munson, D-Oklahoma City was re-elected for a second term as House Minority Leader of the Oklahoma House of Representatives. She is the first Asian-American elected as House Minority Leader. Munson will serve as Minority Leader through 2026.
Leader Munson has expanded the Democratic Caucus for the first time in two decades. House Democrats returned every member who ran for re-election and gained a net seat, reflecting increased public support for Democratic values in Oklahoma.
“I think our message speaks to the people of Oklahoma. House Democrats work every day to ensure a fair shot at a high quality of life for all Oklahomans,” Leader Munson said. “We want fully funded public schools so that our students thrive and are prepared to enter the workforce to build Oklahoma’s economy. We want everyone to have access to higher wage jobs, affordable healthcare and housing. We have prioritized these issues during this legislative session and know this is what Oklahomans want from their lawmakers.”
She has been at the helm of building an infrastructure to support House Democrats in their districts. She believes a strong foundation is built by being intentional about diversity, equity and inclusion.
“I am proud of our caucus, and I am humbled by their support to continue to serve as House Minority Leader. The House Democratic Caucus is the most diverse caucus in state history. Our diversity is our strength. When we can authentically come together with our different perspectives and weave together our ideas, you see that the whole is truly greater than the sum of our parts,” she said.
Leader Munson said she looks forward to continuing her work with Chairwoman Trish Ranson and Vice Chairman John Waldron on the House Democratic Caucus Leadership Team as they bring steady leadership to the caucus and the state of Oklahoma.
“I wish to thank the members of the Democratic Caucus for their trust in my leadership. I have enjoyed serving as Minority Caucus Chairwoman and I look forward to continuing my service in this role,” said Chairwoman Trish Ranson, D-Stillwater, re-elected for a second term.
House Minority Caucus Vice Chairman John Waldron, D-Tulsa was re-elected for a second two-year term also.
“I am honored to serve again as part of the leadership team. With our caucus membership on the rise, I look forward to assisting in its continued growth and service to the people of Oklahoma,” said Vice Chairman Waldron.
Passionate about education and criminal justice reform, Leader Munson has spent over a decade working in the non-profit community. She primarily focuses on issues that create solutions for everyday working families. She serves on several committees including Children, Youth and Family Services, General Government, Rural Development, House Appropriations and Budget Committee and Joint Committee on Pandemic Relief Funding.
