Wildcat of the Week # 19 Amanie Owdetallah

Ponca City Now-Ponca City Public Schools - April 7, 2023 6:38 am

The Heather Cannon Wildcat of the Week #19 for the 2022-2023 school year was presented to Po-Hi senior Amanie Owdetallah.
“Amanie is a student who has a strong drive to succeed, is self-disciplined and holds herself to a high standard of excellence,” said PCPS Superintendent Shelley Arrott. “Amanie only has one class at Po-Hi this semester, Broadcast Production. She participates in three concurrent classes and is in the Internship II program, spending the last two hours of the school day at Northern Oklahoma Humane Society and this is the second year she has done so. In addition to her coursework and internship program, Amanie is Vice President of Business Professionals of America and a member of National Honor Society.”
“The staff at Northern Oklahoma Humane Society love Amanie and have gotten to know her well over the last two years. They say she always arrives for her internship with an upbeat, positive attitude, and they are amazed at how responsible she has been and what great communication skills she has shown. Amanie answers the phone at the shelter frequently and often deals with emotionally charged individuals. She has a calming effect on callers by listening to their concerns or requests. She handles herself with poise and grace by expressing her care and concern for their needs. Not only does she care for the staff and patrons, but she also shows such love and compassion for the animals at the shelter. Her investment with the animals is incredible; she follows-up with adopters to see how the pets are doing and reports back to the shelter.”
“Mrs. Jackson-Gross, the Po-Hi Internship coordinator, said that when she visits Amanie’s internship site, NOKHS, her supervisor does not stop singing her praises. They comment she is extremely professional, has excellent customer service skills, and works hard to be an asset every day. Ms. Jolly, one of her BPA sponsors, added, ‘Amanie is such a delight to have around. She is always upbeat and smiling every day, and she goes out of her way to be helpful to those around her. In fact, my grandson, Peanut, calls her ‘my girl’ whenever he sees her. He met her when he was only two-years-old, and that in itself is a testament of Amanie’s true nature.’”
“Amanie, I have gotten to know you this year through your endeavors with BPA. Your passion, work-ethic, and leadership have led you to become such a dynamic force at such a young age. I am so impressed with your interaction with adults. You conduct yourself in a mature and responsible manner and are respectful, courteous, and attentive when communicating with teachers, administrators, your supervisors, and patrons of the community. You are well-spoken and articulate, and are able to express yourself clearly and confidently in conversation while demonstrating a level of respect and professionalism that is beyond your years. I know you have been doing some presentations and fundraising at various businesses to help fund the trip to the National BPA Leadership Conference in Anaheim, Cali. Later this month since you are a part of the Po-Hi BPA Team who qualified as a Top 10 National Finalist in Virtual Multimedia and Promotion. I was honored to be on the receiving end of your presentation, and I am so very proud of how you represent our school as a consummate professional when you speak to our local business owners. It’s no surprise that the BPA team has nearly raised all funding by not only your professionalism, but the professionalism of the entire team.”
“In the fall, you will be attending Cowley College and will focus your studies on social work. However, you have already been offered summer employment by the Northern Oklahoma Humane Society and you will be such a valuable and caring employee! Having exceptional customer service will bring numerous benefits to your professional and personal life, and I know great success is in your future. You family, school family, our community, and your friends think the world of you. We are all better people because you have been in our lives.”
“Good luck to you and the BPA team competing at Nationals in Anaheim later this month; I know you are looking forward to and are excited about the trip! There is no doubt the team will represent Po-Hi and our community with pride!”
