Journey’s Neal Schon Donates Guitar to OKPOP Museum

TULSA, Okla. –

An Oklahoma-born rock star is giving back to the state by donating his guitar and a drum to be added to the OKPOP Museum.

Neal Schon with Journey is from Midwest City and said he is honored to now be a part of the museum.

“This OKPOP, this hall of fame is truly a special place in my heart,” Neal said.

Neal donated a guitar and a drum, and said he plans to give even more pieces in the future.

He spent Friday afternoon touring the museum’s current collection and said he is so impressed.

“Just truly amazing, mindboggling actually, one of the best. I think you’re going to have one of the best museums anybody has ever seen,” he said.

The museum hopes to open by the end of 2024 and is still fundraising.

Chair of the OKPOP Foundation Scott Petty said Oklahoma has so many talented musicians and the museum will help inspire even more.

“This OKPOP Museum will inspire future creatives, to dream their biggest dreams, because so many Oklahomans who have come before them dreamt their biggest dreams,” Petty said.

Neal said he loves coming home and knowing his guitars have a home at OKPOP means so much to him.

“I’m just really happy to be here today, not only am I playing tonight in my hometown where I was born, I want to thank you for letting me be reborn again,” he said.

Neal and the rest of Journey took the stage Friday night at the BOK Center.
