John Clark

June 21, 1946 – March 28, 2023

John Edward Clark was born June 21, 1946 in Ft. Smith, Arkansas, to James Conlon Clark and Mary Virginia Swafford Clark. When he was 6 weeks old his parents moved to San Francisco. He lived in several states out west before graduating from Lovington High School in New Mexico. Always industrious, when he was a preteen in earned money giving people guided tours of the Lava Flats near his home in New Mexico.

He returned to Ft. Smith where he attended West Ark Junior College. He later transferred to Arkansas Tech in Russellville where he graduated with a degree in accounting. While in college he met and married his wife, Dianne McDonald Clark.

Upon graduation he was recruited by Conoco, moved to Ponca City and raised his family here. He began his career in the Controllers department, worked on special projects, supervised the Windfall Profits Division and later became an auditor, traveling not only in the United States and Canada, but around the world. Before retiring he worked as a Senior Consultant in the Federal Royalties Department. Over the years he received multiple awards including an award from the Department of the Interior for his work with the Indian Tribes.

John represented Conoco in COPAS (Coalition of Petroleum Accounting Societies). He served on the National Board of Directors and as president of the Society in 2004.

After retirement he work for several years in the pro shop at Wentz Golf Course.

John was an avid bowler and golfer. He had once bowled a perfect score of 300. He played scratch golf and had two holes in one. He also served as president of the Men’s Golf Association.

He is survived by his wife, Dianne, a son, Matthew of Broken Arrow, a daughter, Megan Beyl of Stillwater, and a sister, Virginia Pierce of Distant, Pennsylvania. He was preceded in death by both his parents and a brother, James Craig Clark.
