Bill to Remove State Park Entry Fees Approved by Oklahoma Senate

KOKH - March 13, 2023 10:19 am

A bill that would eliminate state park entry fees with the exception of motor homes and travel trailers passed the Oklahoma Senate on Wednesday.

Senate Bill (SB) 637, authored by Sen. George Burns, eliminates state park entry fees with the exception of motor homes and travel trailers. The fees would not exceed $8.

“We have dozens of state parks across the state with various geographic characteristics and amenities,” Burns said. “Oklahoma’s state parks are well worth visiting and offer something for everyone. I hope that more people will take advantage of the free entry and visit parks across the state.”

If the measure were to become law, the new entry fees would take effect Nov. 1, 2023. The fees collected for motor homes and/or travel trailers will be used to fund the park where they are collected.

“$8 is a great rate for parking a motor home or travel trailer,” Burns said. “I look forward to more Oklahomans and guests traveling through taking in our scenic state park views and utilizing the provided facilities as a result of this measure.

SB 637 now moves on to the House of Representatives for further consideration.
