Eldon “Poe” Redmond

October 5, 1935 – January 11, 2023

Eldon Darrel Redmond, also known as “Poe,” left his earthly home on January 11, 2023, to be reunited in heaven with his Savior and loved ones after an extended illness. Funeral Services will be held Saturday, January 21, 2023, at 11:00 A.M., at Trout Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow at 12:00 P.M. at Longwood Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Trout Funeral Home & Crematory, 505 W. Grand Ave, Ponca City, OK, 74601.

Eldon was born on October 5, 1935, in Deming, New Mexico, to Thomas Everett Redmond and Pauline Wimberly Redmond. He attended various schools in his younger years, but graduated from high school at Bearden, OK, in 1952. Eldon married Patsy W. Noblett in 1953, and three children were born of the marriage: Kerry Redmond of Ponca City; Kathryn Pruitt of North Carolina; and Darla Duncan of Colcord, OK.

Eldon later married Marjorie L. Osborne in Ponca City, OK, at Sunset Baptist Church in 1974. Together they took on the challenge of raising Eldon’s three teen children and Marjorie’s two teen children, Rick Osborne and Lynette Osborne Martin. Eldon worked hard to support the family, and Marjorie was a frugal stay-at-home wife. They were married for 48 years.

Eldon worked for Chapman Oil Company of Oklahoma, and then joined Conoco Phillips Oil Company where he retired after 30 years of service as a welder on January 1, 1996. He was nicknamed “Weldin’ Eldon” by some of his co-workers and with his unique sense of humor, he enjoyed the comradery of his co-workers, both at work and on fishing and camping trips.

After his retirement, Eldon owned and managed several rental properties in Ponca City and pursued his love of fishing and camping with his wife Marjorie. Many of his camping and fishing trips included his children and grandchildren, creating fun memories for all. Eldon was also a “grill master”, and he often smoked turkeys, hams and brisket for friends and family alike.

Eldon had always loved animals, and he supported animal rescues, even caring for the feral cats near his home. His much beloved cat, named George W. Bushytail, provided reciprocal love and amusement to Eldon.

Surviving Eldon are: his daughter, Kathryn Pruitt (Steve) of North Carolina; daughter Darla Duncan (Pete) of Colcord, Ok; daughter, Lynette Martin (Joe) of Piedmont, OK; his daughter-in-law, Debbie Redmond, of Ponca City, OK; his sister, Karen Barnett of Ponca City; twelve grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild, and numerous nephews, nieces, and cousins.

Eldon was preceded in death by: his wife, Marjorie Redmond; his son, Kerry Redmond; his granddaughter, Holly Redmond Campbell, all of Ponca City, OK; his son, Rick Osborne and his wife, Saundra, of Locust Grove, OK; his parents, Thomas and Pauline Redmond, and his brother, Thomas Redmond Jr.

The family wishes to acknowledge the loving care that Eldon received from Good Shepherd Hospice of Grove, OK, and Monroe Manor Skilled Nursing Home in Jay, OK. A special thank you to the loving and selfless care demonstrated to Poe by Darla and Pete Duncan and their children of Colcord, OK.
