Wildcat of the Week #5 is Sophomore Rileyann Lawson
Ponca City Public Schools - October 25, 2022 6:59 am
The Heather Cannon Wildcat of the Week #5 for the 2022-2023 school year was presented to Po-Hi sophomore Rileyann Lawson.
Superintendent Shelley Arrott said, “It is very rare that a Wildcat of the Week recipient is a sophomore but Rileyann is an underclassman who exemplifies the characteristics of the Wildcat Way. She is the sophomore class vice president and is also a member of the Po-Hi Student Council and Key Club. Rileyann’s work ethic and self-discipline with her studies is remarkable. She pushes herself to do more than just what is needed to complete her coursework and is preparing herself for a successful future.”
“All of Rileyann’s teachers say she is a model student. She pays attention in class, completes her work on time and goes above and beyond what is required for assignments. Not only is she a great student, but she is a great teammate and is quick to help out any classmate that may need support. She is one of those kids who is just a nice person and fun to be around. Mrs. Klein said Rileyann has a lot of school spirit and is a joy to have in class.”
“Rileyann, I happen to know that you have overcome some health obstacles that have been thrown your way. Even though these health issues have caused you to be absent more than you would like, you have incredibly maintained a 4.0 GPA. That accomplishment tells me you are super self-disciplined with staying focused on improving your academics to best prepare yourself for a successful future. Self-discipline is a powerful tool to help people overcome challenges. It requires constant focus and acknowledging your trials that we all face in life. You have not allowed your health challenges to stand in the way of your own success. Too often people try to pretend their vulnerabilities do not exist or they throw up their hands in defeat. Your clear vision of your goals has been a mantra for you as you navigate these challenging times. This is a very mature trait for someone so young.”
“As a sophomore, you already know that you want to go to the University of Central Oklahoma and become an elementary teacher! You will be an amazing teacher because you are patient, kind, flexible and have already proven you can overcome any obstacle. You are a great sister to your little brothers, and I know that you help out with your mom’s daycare whenever you have the opportunity, so you already have experience working with young children. We love to hire teachers who are former Wildcats, so rest assured, we will be recruiting you.”
“I also know you are a really shy person, Rileyann, but once people get to know you, they cannot help but to be drawn to your kindness and sweet spirit! Your family, your school family and your community are very proud of you. It was a pleasure meeting you today and presenting this award during your Pre-AP Geometry class. I recognized you immediately because Mrs. Klein told me you always wear the cutest earrings!”
