Ponca City Will Host Playoff Game
Ponca City Public Schools - October 19, 2022 9:59 am
With the 13-7 win over Putnam City Original last Thursday night, Ponca City has secured a home playoff game for the first time in 17 years.
Scott Harmon, head football coach and director of football operations for PCPS, said, “It is very gratifying to see the program achieve a big goal. These kids have shown a lot of mental toughness and resilience this season. We had an extremely tough early schedule and our staff and players deserve a ton of credit for staying the course and winning some district ballgames. We are not done either.”
“We are extremely excited to host a playoff game, not only for our football program, but for everyone involved and the community. It has been a long time coming,” said Harmon.
“I think it is very important to point out that this team would have qualified for the playoffs in the old format as well,” said Harmon. “We have ended a 17-year playoff dry spell. It is something we are all very proud of. We have worked extremely hard to get here.”
Ponca City has a record of 3-4 with a record of 3-1 in district play. The Wildcats opened the season by losing its first four games to Guthrie, Enid, Charlies Page and Deer Creek. They have won three consecutive games by beating Lawton, Putnam City North and Putnam City Original. The Wildcats will host Capitol Hill on Thursday night and Classen on Friday, Oct. 28 (Senior Night). They will play at Choctaw on Friday, Nov. 4 on the final game of the regular season.
