TULSA, Okla. (AP) – A new foundation has been established to support officers with the Tulsa Police Department through donations of equipment beyond standard-issue gear.
The Tulsa World reports the TPD Foundation was established in late 2014. It will create several programs to donate to the police department based on officers’ needs, the first of which will be donations of Tasers.
The effort, dubbed the Taser Project, is to ensure that beat officers have access to a Taser. The foundation says that will require the purchase of 400 double shot Taser X2s at a total cost of $858,000.
Roger Chasteen, the foundation’s chairman, says the Taser Project is a 10-year program because the warranties purchased with each of the Tasers will cover the cost of its replacement after five years.
