Charlie Adams Day in Newkirk

The town of Newkirk will celebrate their heritage with Charlie Adams Day on South Main in downtown on Saturday, September 10. It’s a fun-filled festival for all ages.

Barbecue teams will compete for top prizes and provide fantastic food to festival-goers. Purchase a tasting kit and enjoy traditional barbecue like brisket, pork, chicken, potatoes, bologna and beans and then vote for your favorites.

Dutch oven teams will also provide demonstrations throughout the day. You can learn about what great desserts can be prepared in a Dutch oven and then sample the results.

Tasting kits can be purchased for $10 in advance at Equity Bank-Newkirk, Newkirk Chamber office and Newkirk Mainstreet or at the event.

Charlie Adams Day in Newkirk begins with the Charlie Adams Day Fun Run/Walk on Saturday morning. Registration starts at 7:30am, race begins at 8:00 am. No entry fee will be required.  Donations to Newkirk Main Street will be greatly appreciated.

The Car Show is from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm with registration at 8:00 at 8th Street and Maple. Cost is $20.00. Categories include car/truck, motorcycle and open. All are welcome to participate with the chance of winning cash prizes for best of show and class winners.

Charlie Adams Day will also include the Cruisin’ for Charlie Poker Run sponsored by American Legion Riders-Chapter 18 of Ark City, Kansas.  Sign-in from 12:30 pm to 2:00 pm at the ChaRon Lounge. Cost is $15.00 per rider-extra person cost is $5.00. All vehicles are welcome to participate in this fun event with the chance of winning  prizes. First vehicle out is at 1:30 pm, last vehicle in at 4:30 pm. All proceeds will be used to help children with medical needs in the Kay and Cowley County area.

The celebration will also feature all day concessions, booths filled with arts and crafts, as well as multiple vendors and games for children. Visitors will also enjoy live music, storytelling and re-enactors. All entertainment is free.

Local band “Salt Fork Revival” will be playing a mix of rock, country and blues favorites at 7:00 pm on Friday, September 9, at the Kay County Amphitheater, 219 South Main, to kick-off the celebration. Bring a friend, your family and a chair or blanket and help celebrate Newkirk.
