Blackwell, Newkirk and Other Kay County Fire Departments Heading to Mooreland to Help Fight Wildfire

City of Blackwell - July 27, 2022 10:17 pm

The Blackwell Fire Department will be joining Newkirk Fire, Kildare Fire, River Road Fire, and Braman Fire to form the Kay County Task Force which will be deploying to Mooreland in Woodward County to battle the current wildfire disaster at the request of Oklahoma Emergency Management.
This task force will be leaving at 5:00 am Thursday to be in Mooreland by 8:00 am.
The “217 Fire” has burned over 10,000 acres and has 0% containment.
We would like to thank our brave local departments for the duty they are about to carry out, wish for their safety, and of course, wish them the absolute best as they prepare for a 10-12 hour shift in some of the most brutal conditions imaginable.
“It’s an absolute privilege to be able to assist our fellow Oklahomans in Mooreland,” Blackwell City Manager Jerry Wieland said.
He continued:
“I could not be prouder of our Fire Chief Corey Hanebrink and the men and woman of the Blackwell fire department. Our department is a true testament to selfless service.”
“I know there are many departments across the state assisting. I thank each and everyone of them for there dedicated service and pray for there safety.”
“I know our neighbors Newkirk, Braman, Kildare and River Road are going as well.
This is a great example of the professional and committed relationships we have in Kay county with our emergency services.”
Please keep our local and county firefighters in your thoughts and may they return home safe.
