PCPS Will Offer Aeronautics Course

In a new partnership with the Oklahoma Aeronautics Commission and the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association (AOPA), Ponca City High School will offer an Introduction to Aeronautics course in the fall of 2022.

Aerospace is Oklahoma’s second leading industry (OAC, 2022). By offering aerospace STEM pathways, Ponca City Public Schools will provide opportunities for students to gain the higher-level thinking skills necessary for strong post-secondary aerospace programs and careers.

The course is an aviation STEM elective, open to interested Ponca City High School students. The course is an introduction to aerospace and aligns to careers in 1) pilot/flying certification 2) drone flying and 3) airplane maintenance. For the 2022-2023 school year, materials will also be provided for the course by a grant from the Federal Aviation Administration.

Ponca City High School Principal Shane Dent said, “We are very excited to bring this program to Po-Hi. We believe it will provide so many opportunities to our students.”
