Emergency Water Ration Continues in Tonkawa Due to Major Leak in Chikaskia River

City of Tonkawa, OK - July 3, 2022 9:59 am

Tonkawa-

Efforts to repair the major water leak at the Chikaskia River were unsuccessful.  Professional Crews, including a dive team, were employed in an attempt to repair the broken line. Therefore, City Officials have announced the Water Emergency Order to Ration Water will continue to remain in effect.
The plan is to bypass the river with the construction of a bypass line that ties into the system.  This will require a certain tier of professional crews, that possess the necessary equipment to conduct this type of repair work.  This project will be a large endeavor.  The Fourth of July Holiday further complicates the scheduling of this project and crews are simply not available to arrive and start until Tuesday.  Tonkawa Public Works crews have been working around the clock to maintain the current use of the city water system.  Residents are asked to comply with the Water Emergency Order to Ration Water.  Reports from the In-Town Water basin show that the amount of water is at a CRITICAL LEVEL.  Thank you for your cooperation and attention to this matter.

Instructions:

Continue to ration water usage as much as possible. The intown water supply is at critical levels and every gallon of water counts. Please refrain from excessive water use for long showers, laundry, etc. Outdoor watering is prohibited.
