Tonkawa Declares Water Emergency

City of Tonkawa - June 30, 2022 10:56 pm

Public Works crews  in Tonkawa have been investigating problems with the city’s water system this past week.  This afternoon, crews successfully located the source of the water issues.

The issue is located at the Chikaskia River, east of Tonkawa, and is severe.

Crews are confident that the problem can be remedied soon. However, City Officials have declared an Emergency, effective immediately. This Emergency directs Tonkawa residents to limit residential/commercial water use as much as possible. No outdoor watering until a temporary bypass can be installed.

During this time, please detour all travel around the Chikaskia River Bridge (east of town on [OLD] U.S. Highway-60) as crews will have the road closed to conduct crucial work on the town water lines. The ration order will remain in effect until further notice
