More flu deaths reported

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) – The Oklahoma Department of Health reports three new deaths due to influenza this season and more than 160 people hospitalized in the past week due to the flu.

The department said Wednesday that the number of flu deaths this season now stands at nine. The department says one of the new deaths is in the 18 to 49 age group, while the other eight are in the 65 or older age group.

The department said there was a total of 168 new hospitalizations or deaths due to flu during the week of Dec. 23-30. A total of 517 people have been hospitalized or died because of the flu this season – which began Sept 28.

Two deaths are reported in Garfield, Oklahoma and Stephens counties and one in Carter, Okfuskee and Payne counties.
