David Ware Execution Date Set, Though Ware Has Filed Notice to Appeal

TULSA, Okla. (KTUL) – David Ware’s execution date has been set for Aug. 10, according to a death warrant obtained Monday by NewsChannel 8.

The judge signed the death warrant last month.

Ware was sentenced to death in the murder of Tulsa Police Sgt. Craig Johnson. Ware was also convicted of shooting and severely wounding Officer Aurash Zarkeshan during a late-night traffic stop in June 2020.

Ware’s representation has filed a notice to appeal, and it’s unlikely Ware will be put to death as currently scheduled in August as the legal appeals process plays out.
