Annual Spring Concert is Tuesday May 3

The Ponca City Instrumental Music Department presents the Elementary, Middle School and Po-Hi Philharmonic Orchestras in their annual Spring Concert.

We are excited to announce that the annual Elementary, Middle School and Philharmonic concert will take place tomorrow Tuesday, May 3, 2022 at the Ponca City Schools Concert Hall. The concert will begin at 7:00 pm and will feature the

5th grade orchestra, directed by Katie Rolf and Ella Gordon, the 6th grade orchestra, directed by Katie Rolf and Ella Gordon, the 7th grade orchestra directed by Ella Gordon, the 8th grade orchestra, directed by Katie Rolf, and the Po-Hi Philharmonic Strings directed by Cassidy Broome. Andrew Orr will join in on the fun with the drum set and Paula Cochran will be accompanying the orchestras on the Steinway piano,

The 6th grade orchestra will start the concert with a traditional piece, French Folk Song, followed by a fun lively piece entitled Groove Little Hippo. Next the 6th graders perform a Happy Hoedown followed by the Sweeney arrangement of Power Rock. The Po-Hi Philharmonic will then join the 6th graders is the swinging Cerulli arrangement of The Lion Sleeps Tonight. To conclude this portion of the concert, we invite Cassidy Broome to the stage to conduct the Philharmonic Strings on Kazik’s arrangement of This is Me.

The 7th grade orchestra will then take the stage to present their pieces. C-Serpents by Andrew Dabczynski sets the mood followed by Loch Lomond arranged by Klaus. The 7th graders then perform a hoedown entitled Yee Haw by Jeremy Woolstenhulme. The Po-Hi Philharmonic will then join the 7th graders in the rocking Longfield arrangement of Firework. To conclude this portion of the concert, we again invite Cassidy Broome to the stage to conduct the Philharmonic Strings on Larry Moore’s arrangement of Wellerman.

Next, the 8th grade orchestra performs their first piece Strings Meet the Masters featuring well known melodies by Beethoven, Dvorak and Tchaikovsky. Changing moods, the 8th graders play an ominous piece Storm by Soon Hee Newbold. The third piece featured is a hoedown Blue Grass Ball by Bruce Chase followed by the popular tune All Star arranged by Michael Story. To conclude this portion of the concert, we invite Cassidy Broome to the stage to conduct the 8th graders with the Philharmonic Strings on Larry Moore’s arrangement of Viva La Vida.

The final group to be featured will be our 5th grade orchestras. They begin their portion of the concert with the traditional songs Hot Cross Buns and Lightly Row. To close their portion of the concert, the 5th grade orchestra will perform the fiddle tune Bile ‘Em Cabbage Down and will feature four senior string soloists. To close the concert, the 5th and 8th grade orchestra and the PoHi Philharmonic Strings will combine to perform Orpheus in the Underworld by Offenbach.

Admission to the concert is free and the public is cordially invited.
