MUSKOGEE, Okla. (AP) — A Seminole Nation citizen whom federal prosecutors say was a Native American prison gang member has pleaded guilty to murder. Court records show 42-year-old John Douglas Knight pleaded guilty Wednesday in a Muskogee federal court to second-degree murder in the fatal 2015 Seminole County shooting of Scotty Candler.

Prosecutors say Knight and co-defendant Matthew Onesimo Armstrong went to Candler’s home under orders from the prison-based Indian Brotherhood gang to question Candler about another slaying but eventually shot Candler in the head.

Armstrong previously pleaded guilty to assault and a weapons charge in Candler’s slaying.
