March 10, 1949 – March 6, 2022
Kenneth Lee Jernigan ran into Jesus’ arms on Sunday, March 6, 2022, at the age of 72 years.
Kenneth Lee Jernigan was born on March 10, 1949, in Blackwell, Oklahoma to parents, Kenneth Matthew and Lena Belle Jernigan. He attended Blackwell Schools and graduated from Blackwell High School in 1967. He furthered his education by attending Northern Oklahoma College where he earned his associate degree.
He served in the United States Navy during the Vietnam war and was honorably discharged.
Kenneth married Linda Sheets on September 8, 1972, and they enjoyed 42 years together. After 13 years of prayer and waiting for a child, they adopted Brian Jernigan as an infant.
He worked for Blackwell Police Department, Blackwell Smelter Zinc Company, and Oklahoma Corporation Commission, where he ultimately retired from.
He was a member of Blackwell First Church of the Nazarene and later Gateway City Church in Arkansas City, Kansas. He loved attending bible studies with friends and loved working with children.
Kenneth loved life and was fun to be around. His pranks and humor will be greatly missed.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Kenneth and Lena Jernigan; wife, Linda (Sheets) Jernigan; and mother-in-law, LaVera Sheets.
Survivors include son, Brian Wayne Jernigan of Blackwell; sister, Lorene (Jernigan) Christian (Ron) of Edmond; aunts, Alice Jernigan of Blackwell, Juanita Schmidt of Lamar, Missouri, and Glenda Carlson of Troutsdale, Oregon; niece, Crystal Christian; nephew, Darrell Christian; sister-in-law, Rhonda Maule (Keith) of Sarasota, Florida; nephew, Ryan Maule; cousin, Phillip Jernigan (Chris) of Blackwell; and many other relatives and friends.
Services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m., Saturday, March 12th in the Roberts and Son Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Sandy Newman officiating. Burial will follow in the Blackwell Cemetery.
Casketbearers will be Joe Ball, Larry Jeffries, Chuck Jeffries and Phillip Ballard.
