Rex Alan Mayer
October 27, 1958 – March 2, 2022
Rex Mayer of Blackwell, Oklahoma passed away on March 2, 2022, at his home at the age of 63 years following a battle with cancer.
Rex Alan Mayer was born on October 27, 1958, in Ponca City, Oklahoma to Lawrence W. Mayer and Mary K. (Rogers) Mayer.
He was raised on the family farm East of Blackwell, attending Lost Creek and Peckham Rural Schools. He attended junior high and high school in Blackwell, graduating in 1976. He was involved with 4-H and FFA, and attended Pioneer Vo-Tech. Following high school, he engaged in family farming and later worked at ACME Foundry, Electron, A-1 Heating & Air as a journeyman, and Sooner State Pattern Works.
Growing up on the farm with five siblings was entertainment in itself.
Rex enjoyed fishing, hunting, trapping, outdoor games, and playing pitch with friends and family. He enjoyed gardening and was very proud of his home-grown tomatoes.
He was baptized as a baby and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church in Blackwell. He also served as an elder and Sunday school teacher at Trinity Lutheran Church.
He served on the Coop Board, Lost Creek Water Shed Board, and helped with American Cancer Society fundraisers.
Rex is survived by siblings, Roger Mayer (Kim), Kayleen M. Horn (Gary), Marsha G. Stewart (Kenneth), and Ramona K. Ryan (Brian); nephews, Derek, Nathan, Daniel, Laramie, Mark, Kyle, Dexter, Rex, Andrew; nieces, Leah, Shasta, Lacey, Keri, Tiffany, Mandi; 35 great nieces and nephews; and two great-great-nieces.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Larry M. Mayer.
Visitation will be held from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 6, 2022, at Roberts and Son Funeral Home.
Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, March 7, 2022, at St. John’s Lutheran Church, East of Blackwell. Burial will follow in Blackwell Cemetery.
