SWOSU to offer English as second language

WEATHERFORD, Okla. (AP) – Southwestern Oklahoma State University plans to offer a course that teaches English as a second language starting next month.

International Student Affairs Coordinator Randy Beckloff says the course was prompted by the growing international student community on the school’s campus in Weatherford.

Beckloff says many international students are accompanied by non-student spouses and other family members. He says adult family members of international students and others in the community have requested a class of this kind for some time.

The class will begin on Jan. 12 through the university’s continuing education program. The class is open to any English-language learner regardless of current skill level and participants do not need to be Southwestern students. The non-credit course will teach English-language listening, speaking, reading and writing skills to non-native English speakers.
