A former opponent in the race to become attorney general of Oklahoma announced Friday he is seeking to fill the open office after Attorney General Mike Hunter suddenly resigned this week.

Pledging to be a check and balance on Oklahoma’s political elite, businessman and rancher Gentner
Drummond Friday announced he is seeking the open office created by the resignation of Attorney General Hunter.
“We have seen the results of political cronyism and we have suffered the consequences of politicians who
serve their own interests above those of We the People,” said Drummond. “I believe it’s more important
now than ever to uphold the rule of law and protect the Constitutional, God-given rights of all
Oklahomans.”
Drummond previously ran against outgoing Attorney General Mike Hunter in the 2018 Republican
primary and runoff contests, losing in a historically close margin. The recent resignation announcement
from Hunter presents a new opportunity for voters to decide who they want to serve as their elected
Attorney General.
“I have always put service to country and community first,” said Drummond. “When my nation called, I
didn’t hesitate. I was taught to lead when duty calls.”
Drummond will bring to the Attorney General’s office vast experience from the Air Force and from the
private sector where he has earned success in banking, ranching and his law practice.
Drummond spent seven years in the Air Force, flying 40 combat missions, including the first U.S. combat
mission of the Gulf War. He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross and many other medals and
ribbons for his conduct and returned home as the most decorated Oklahoman of the Gulf War.
“I will be the first to admit that I have never been the choice of the political elite,” said Drummond. “I
wear their rejection as a badge of honor. I am not running for office to serve them–I am running to serve
the People of Oklahoma.”
Gentner Drummond is 57 years old and is married to Wendy. The couple has a blended family of six
children and five grandchildren. They live in Tulsa and on their ranch near Hominy.
